Trevor's Redemption (Arresting Onyx Book 3.5) by [Amber Daulton]

Creating Trevor’s Redemption

Shea and Trevor’s romance is probably one of my favorites in the steamy romantic suspense series, Arresting Onyx, but I never intended to write it. As I was revising the final Onyx book, a little voice in the back of my head kept telling me to go back and squeeze two novellas into the middle of the series. Believe me, I fought this—hard—but that little voice wouldn’t stop pestering me. Turns out, that voice has a name, and it’s Shea O’Bannon.

I introduced Shea and her best gal pal Chanel way back in book 1, Arresting Mason, as friends to that story’s heroine. As secondary characters, they played well as set dressing and did what I expected from them. But the series continued and they kept popping up here and there. Shea and Chanel were developing into full-fledged characters with hopes, dreams, troubles, and pains that many readers could identify with, and they wanted their stories to be told. They wanted happiness, romance, and adventure, and who am I to argue with that? Oh, wait, I am their author goddess. I’m the one in the control, or so I like to think, but I finally stopped fighting and jotted down ideas for Shea’s story.

Chanel, though, spoke louder to me, so I wrote her book first (it’s Ryan’s Temptation, in case you’re wondering). Anyway, I don’t like to make things too easy for my characters, especially when they’ve nagged at me for months. Shea went through a lot of trouble to find her happily ever after with Trevor, but according to her, it was all worth it.

I had a blast bringing Shea’s romance to life, and I hope readers will enjoy it just as much.

Arresting Onyx Series Background

The danger and lies are more than she can handle.
Shea O’Bannon feels like a fifth wheel around her romantically paired-off friends, but there’s too much slime in the dating pool for her to bother with it. Then she sees her two-timing ex, Trevor Madero, serenading the mostly female crowd at a live-music bar. God knows trouble follows him around, but her desire for him rushes back in anyway. After he rescues her from a handsy drunk, temptation takes over.

Determined to prove he never stepped out on Shea, Trevor slides back into her life—and her heart—with forever in mind. Even with the wall he keeps up to protect her, his secret criminal life weighs heavy on his soul and drives a wedge between them.
When the truth comes out and his enemies target them both, they’ll have to fight for their love, or kiss it goodbye.

Excerpt from Trevor’s Redemption

His taste buds tingled, her shower-fresh sweetness an aphrodisiac. He kissed her foot, swirled his tongue across the sole, and popped one of her toes into his mouth.

She bucked again within the restraint of his arms. “Oh my God.”

He chuckled and released the toe with a popping sound. After he licked and treasured her other foot, he climbed onto the sofa and knelt between her spread legs. Her glistening center opened for him. Later. There was no need to rush. He feathered kisses up her right calf, on the underside of her knee, and licked a wet trail across her inner thigh.

“God, Trevor. What are you doing?” She fisted the cushion and wiggled.

“I’m tormenting you. What does it feel like?”

“Torment, definitely.”

“Should I stop?”

“Don’t you dare.”

He smirked. Damned if he didn’t love her bossy side. He swooped his tongue around her belly button, dipped in, and clasped her waist as she lurched up.

“Damn it, yes.” She twined her fingers into his hair and tugged.

His scalp smarted. He kissed her quivering stomach and clasped her naughty little nipple between his teeth. The pebble swelled as he suckled and lightly squeezed her velvet-smooth breasts.

She gripped his shoulders and pulled him closer to her chest.

Ah! Her nails bit through his shirt. He released the nub with a swipe of his tongue, and the bite of her nails eased. He suckled her other nipple more gently.

She gasped, arching her back, pushing her mounds against his face.

Paradise. He drew back for air and claimed her warm mouth. Fiery need sizzled through his veins and pulsed through every organ. He licked from the tip of her button nose to her forehead and kissed each eyebrow.

“More, please.”

Her breathy plea coiled around his heart. “Come for me.” He thumbed her clit and slipped his finger in between her hot, slick folds.

“Yes, Trevor. There.” She thrust against his hand as soft little mewls left her mouth. She dug her nails against his biceps. “Faster.”

How could he deny her? He pinched and rubbed her puffy clit harder and grinned as she cried out. “That’s it, honey.” He plunged two digits into heaven. Her eyes widened, and her mouth formed a pouty O. Strength and satin clamped his fingers. He suckled her neck, pushing his fingers in and out, stretching her channel. His throbbing cock ached for her.

“Oh God, Trevor. I need more.”

He edged back and bent his head between her thighs. He licked her cream and groaned. Fucking hell. Honey, sugar, and spice. Had anything ever tasted so good? As she cried out again, he scissor-kicked his fingers inside her and flicked his tongue across her clitoris.

Her feet shuffled on the cushions, seeking traction. She gasped and gripped his head, forcing his face harder against her.

“Yes!”

What Amber Daulton’s Readers are Saying…

I loved Arresting Mason, the first book in Amber Daulton’s Arresting Onyx series. The characters are well-developed and interesting, the romance is amazing, and the story is well-paced and intriguing. The story follows Mason and Mia as they begin a relationship riddled with obstacles.

Mason has a troubled past and is trying to start over after ten years in prison. Daulton did a fabulous job of presenting a redeemed man, not without faults, who struggles with his past and his present. The book really made me think about how difficult it is for parolees to start over. Time in prison has changed Mason, and he often struggles to fit in with his family and others. Guilt, feelings of unworthiness, anger, and frustration often consume him. However, Mason is very self-aware and works hard to keep his demons at bay. Mia, and to a lesser degree his brother and nephew, help him focus on his good qualities and assure him that his past doesn’t have to define him. However, his past often feels inescapable, and his fears of endangering those he loves are valid.

Mia is another well-developed character that I love. Mia has regrets too and struggles with her own demons. However, she usually sees the good in people, and from the start of the book, she has such faith in Mason. Sharp and astute, she sees how much Mason has changed, and she appreciates his honesty and determination to reform. She also sees how tormented he is by the past and how hard he works to better himself. It’s clear that Mason and Mia understand each other well and accept each other completely.

And their romance!!! Oh my!! It is an almost instantaneous love match that proves opposites do attract. Mia is sweet and a bit innocent to the uglier side of life, while Mason is an ex-con who served time for some serious crimes. But their differences don’t change the way they feel about each other. Sometimes Mason doesn’t know how to react to certain situations, and he tends to push people away in self-protection, but I think this further exemplifies how much being in jail changed him and influenced how he interacts with people.

Mia and Mason’s romance becomes complicated since Mia’s brother Jim is Mason’s parole officer, and Jim doesn’t approve of their budding romance. Jim does everything within his power to keep these two apart, but their feelings for each other only intensify. In addition to Jim’s meddling, Mason’s past comes back to haunt him, which puts his future with Mia in jeopardy. Mia and Mason go through a lot, and it’s fascinating to see how they fight for their love.

Gangs, kidnappings, people from Mason’s past, and other life-threatening dangers put Mia and Mason in some precarious situations and add a ton of suspense to the story. Mason learns that it is very difficult to escape his past, and many of his deepest fears come true.

This is a great story for people who like contemporary romance with a bad-boy hero and page-turning intrigue. I’m so thankful to Amber Daulton for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! It focuses on Mia’s brother Jim, and I’m curious to learn more about his story. He wasn’t the most likeable character for most of this one, though I understood his reservations and reasoning behind not wanting his sister with Mason. I definitely liked his character by the end of the book and can’t wait to see him find his own happily-ever-after.

– Julie Petitbon (Arresting Mason)

A suspenseful, steamy romance between Mason, a former prisoner whose dark past comes back to haunt him and Mia, a boutique shop owner who can’t help but fall for the impossibly alluring ex-con. Filled with danger, betrayal, family loyalty and prison gang wars, this page-turner is a must read for all who love romantic thrillers!

– Jennifer Walker (Arresting Mason)

Jeremiah (Jim) Borden is a parole officer with a broken arm and a two week suspension from his job. If you have read book one, Arresting Mason, then you are familiar with Jim and what happened to him and why he is obsessed with doing a gangland investigation. Jim is investigating Capularia, a subset of Onyx a major crime ring and trying to deal with the fact that in order to save his life he made a deal with the devil, Bristol Rieger.

Jim can’t seem to let go of what happened to him, his sister Mia and her boyfriend Mason and in spite of the danger he puts himself in he keeps going. When a knock on his door brings him face to face with the girl of his dreams Calista Barlow he is shocked, but as much as he wants to be with her he refuses to put her life and the life of her ten year old daughter in danger, his secrets could threaten their lives. Unfortunately for him it is a new era and Calista has no problem making the first move. Calista works at a run down diner and has had her eyes on Jim for quite a while so if the mountain won’t come to Mohamed then Mohamed will go to the mountain.

In spite of his desire to protect Cali he can’t refuse her and he really doesn’t want to. She and her daughter become his family and he will do whatever he has to to protect the ones he loves. His investigation takes a turn when Cali’s past crashes into Jim’s because he discovers that Rieger is as much a part of her life as he is his. I don’t want to go into too much about Cali’s involvement with the Rieger family but I will reveal that she grew up in their home where her mother still lives and works and life with the Rieger’s was not always pretty.

This book kept me up till 5AM because I could not put it down. This is a suspense lovers buffet, violence, murder, attempted rape, lies, betrayal, kidnapping, stalking, sex, and OMG the surprises. I can’t imagine that this book doesn’t cover everything you could want, it definitely covered everything I wanted.

Amazing characters, hot, hot sex and a woman who doesn’t turn her back from trouble especially if that trouble involves her loved ones. I would also recommend reading book one, Arresting Mason because it was every bit as wonderful as this book was.

You’re in for an exciting ride. If you like suspense, romance, and sexy beyond your wildest dreams, this story is for you. You’ll turn pages to find one surprise after another in this romance of a perfectly matched couple. I especially liked Callista’s not very shy approach to getting what she wants.
