Wolves’ Knight, a Paranormal Romance from P.J. MacLayne

Please help me welcome P.J. MacLayne today. P.J. is here to share her Paranormal Romance, Wolves’ Knight. Wolves’ Knight is the second book her Free Wolves series. Welcome P.J.! We are excited to hear more about Wolve’s Knight.

Wolves’ Knight, book 2 of the Free Wolves series:

Wolves’ Knight is not a story I ever planned to write. When I wrote Wolves’ Pawn, the first book in the series, I thought I was done with the story. My main characters had found their happily ever-after and all was well in their world. I moved on to write a mystery series.

But as I worked on the third book in that series, one of the minor characters from Wolves’ Pawn started bugging me. Tasha, who had been a no more than a sidekick to the main character and got written out of the book halfway through, demanded I tell the rest of her story. Heck, until then, I didn’t know there was more to her adventure.

Because Tasha was so insistent, I stopped in the middle of the then-current project and started on hers. I thought it would be fairly easy, because I already had a ‘sense’ of her character. She proved me wrong. Just when I thought I’d figured out where the story was going, she’d throw me a curve ball and things ended up going in an entirely different direction. She was right, of course, and the story turned out better because I listened to her.

About Wolves’ Knight:

Tasha Roeper knows what it means to protect your own. So, when her friend, Dot Lapahie, CEO of Lapahie Enterprises, suspects that the Free Wolves are under attack, Tasha immediately signs on to lead the investigation and guard Dot.

But Tasha’s not convinced it’s the Free Wolves that are the target. She fears that her own pack—the Fairwood Pack—are the actual quarry and Dot is only a decoy.

The deeper Tasha digs, the more puzzles she uncovers.

Torn between tradition and a changing world, will Tasha risk everything to save a friend—including her own life—when old enemies arise?

Wolves’ Knight is an urban fantasy/paranormal and can be read as a stand-alone.

Wolves’ Knight is currently on sale for 99¢ at these major retailers:

Excerpt from Wolves’ Knight:

He came out of the kitchen, and she closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep. But she knew her ploy hadn’t worked when he stopped by the couch and sighed. “It’s time to get your act together, Tasha. We have work to do.”
Tasha-wolf opened one eye a crack. “A little while longer?” she whined.
“No. It’s nearly dark and I’m tired too. It’s time to go.”
She opened both eyes, yawned and stretched. “If I have to. But I can just run back to Lapahie.”
“What kind of game are you playing?” he asked sharply.
Huh. Maybe he wasn’t familiar with this particular after-effect of extended fighting. She’d have to explain it to him. But that required shifting back to human form. And she wasn’t sure she wanted him to see her naked, although it had never bothered her before. With her mouth, she reached for the blanket crumpled on the floor beside her, intending to pull it over herself before the shift.
She caught the question in his eyes, but he didn’t say anything as he reached over to help her cover up. Before he straightened, she raised her head and licked his cheek. She could always blame the gesture on her wolf.
The shift back to human took several seconds. Tasha spent more time adjusting to her wounds before standing and wrapping the blanket around her naked body. “I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. It’ll be a long walk back to the car.”
“Samantha parked it out back for us.”
“That’s not so bad then.” Tasha took a step and stumbled. She’d forgotten the bite she’d received to her left foot.
Mark was there in a flash, supporting her. “Do you want me to carry you?”
She flushed. “No, I just need a moment to adjust.” In reality, she enjoyed the warmth of his arm around her. “Dr. Tracy will yell at me, won’t she?”
“Probably. But not as much as she’ll yell at me for letting you do this.”
“You couldn’t have stopped me.”
“I know that.” He reached out with his free hand and shoved some hair away from her eyes. “Ready to try again?”
She scolded herself for reading anything more into that simple gesture but the caring of a friend. “Ready,” she said, faking a smile.
