Thieves' Guild Academy Bundle 1

Interview with Kayelle Allen

We asked Kayelle several questions to get to know her, and her series Thieves’ Guild Academy, better. Here is what she said.

Where is your favorite place to write?

I have a comfortable desk set up in a sunroom. It lets me tune out the world and just write.

What inspired your latest novel?

The characters were in other books, and I wanted to give them their own story. It was fun to think “and then what happened?”

Why do you write romance and why your genre of romance?

Originally, I was planning a career writing science fiction. When I discovered the enormous odds against being published in that field, I took a look at other genres. Romance science fiction seemed like a much better opportunity, so I took the world I’d already created and looked at ways to give the characters happily-ever-afters. My thought was that after I’d written a few romances I would then have a better chance at being published in sci-fi. I hadn’t counted on liking romance as much as I did. I still write sci-fi without romance, but I no longer worry about being published. A few years ago, I obtained the rights to all my books and self-published everything. That’s my career path from now on. I’d only like an agent for obtaining a movie or TV deal. Otherwise, I function pretty well on my own.

What would you do if you couldn’t write?

Cry. Seriously, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself. I’m retired and can write full time. If I suddenly couldn’t write, I’d probably spend my time reading. I love stories and books.

How do you spend your free time?

My husband and I like movies and will binge on shows we discover. We watched every episode of Bosch and Bosch Legacy, Endeavour, Medium, and a host of similar shows. To wind down after suspense-filled watching, we’ll relax with a documentary. Our favorite topics are engineering stories and behind the scenes peeks. We don’t like unscripted programs, but do enjoy a few of those types about pilots in various parts of the world. Basically, we are thirsty for knowledge, and spend way too much time gaining trivial facts, but it’s fun.

Do you listen to music when you write? What is your go-to playlist and why?

I do. I like instrumentals and especially “movie trailer” music. It’s an actual genre.

How do you, your friends and your fans encourage you when you need a pick-me-up?

Ask me what I’m writing, or about a character. Nothing pulls me out of boredom faster than having a chance to talk about my favorite fictional people.

What’s your latest book about?

My latest is a box set filled with books from the Thieves’ Guild Academy, an MM Romance series featuring found family and forever love. They include A Stolen Heart, A Broken Heart, and A Divided Heart, plus a behind-the-scenes book. Here’s a quick peek at each story.

Thieves’ Guild Academy Bundle 1

The Thieves’ Guild Academy teaches three things: Honor above profit. Skill above chance. Family above all. But in a school filled with hackers and thieves, how do you guard your heart?

A Stolen Heart [Book 1 of Thieves' Guild Academy]A Stolen HeartWhen your king is immortal—and your ex—can you ever catch a break?

When your king is immortal—and your ex—can you ever catch a break? Luc’s immortal ex allows no lifetime to pass without trying to win him back. That’s not happening, but despite Pietas being the jealous sort and manipulative, he’s also the king. As his General, Luc can’t simply walk away. So when summoned for a “simple mission” of finding a lost child, he suspects it covers some hidden agenda or lurking secret. But he has no idea what a radical change to his life lurks on the horizon…

The mission goes off with surprising ease, and when an alien toddler needing rescue falls into Luc’s lap, worry about Pietas takes a backseat. While attempting to care for the boy, a late-night visit from the immortal king reveals Luc’s easy solution screwed up everything Pietas was planning. Now Luc’s slap in the middle of a dubious fix that endangers not just himself and his king, it also threatens the adorable tot Luc has decided to foster, along with all the other mortals he’s come to love.

Because at the center of the Thieves’ Guild Academy lies a lifetime of dark secrets, and Luc has just ripped off the veil and exposed its sinister heart…

A Broken Heart [Book 2 of Thieves' Guild Academy]A Broken Heart – When you can make yourself invisible, how can you hide your heart?

The Thieves’ Guild tech Senth is about to claim will make him invisible. Finally, the young halfbreed thief will be out of sight, shielded from the taunts humans fire at him.

But when that tech reveals he has a human half-brother who’s bound by a cruel slaver, Senth must find a way to save his brother from abuse and win him his freedom — even though Senth is a slave himself. After all, this is what he’s always wanted. A family.
There’s just one problem.
That brother holds him responsible for every bad thing that ever happened, and he can’t wait to make Senth pay.
Senth might be invisible, but he can’t hide from the truth…

A Divided Heart [Book 3 of Thieves' Guild Academy]A Divided Heart – In a school filled with hackers and thieves, how do you guard your heart?

In a school filled with hackers and thieves, how do you trust your heart?

The Thieves’ Guild Academy teaches three things. Honor above profit. Skill above chance. Family above all.
So when the Academy decides to turn away an alien child who’s too unruly to train, Professor Brinn Halin intercedes. Despite the warnings of his handsome ex, the Headmaster, Kam, he fosters the precocious four-year-old girl.
Academy Headmaster Kam Zavala oversees a school full of trainee thieves and hackers, and he’s used to their tricks. This latest student, a headstrong but brilliant little girl, has gone beyond a simple hack. Her work threatens to implode the ancient Academy itself. As a disaster of epic proportions unfurls, Kam must take action.
But when the child’s breach uncovers a deeper, more insidious hack, the two master thieves must work together. Is there truly honor among thieves?
These two have a second chance to prove it, save the child, the Academy, and restore their newfound love. The question is, will they trust their well-honed instincts, or follow their long-divided hearts…

What Kayelle’s Readers Are Saying…

This is part of a series but can stand alone just fine though if you read in this order you understand the characters better. A Stolen Heart, Bro, At the Mercy of Her Pleasure, For Women Only.
I did read this out of order ad read At the Mercy of Her Pleasure which was Senth’s story and this one helps you understand his and Luc’s relationship much better. It also shows the softness in this hard, monster of a man and I absolutely loved it.
Everything about this story is great. The characters are amazing, and you can’t help but fall in love with all of them. The storyline is compelling and keeps you pulled in, (because little baby Senthys is so adorable) There are some twists and lots of action. The world-building is amazing. (I am not a sci-fi buff and these books have me absolutely hooked! I bought all of them and joined Kayelle’s newsletter and group to get the freebies. That is how good this book is) I can’t decide if I am going to read Bro next which is suggested for best enjoyment or Bringer of Chaos ( Pietas story)Again for me to be so excited over a sci-fi book its good!
Now I had two tiny issues. One there were a few unanswered questions, but I didn’t take off since I am sure this is Pieta’s story. The other is the language of the Kin and other words and some of the names BUT that is my personal issues since I don’t lie hard to pronounce names and stuff which is one reason I seldom read sci-fi since that is integral to the worldbuilding so again my personal problem and I don’t take off for that.

– Cat (A Stolen Heart, Book 1 of Thieves’ Guild Academy)

At last we get to see Luc Saint-Cyr as the man he really is, and I loved it! When he meets Senthys the shock he feels as love first enters his heart for the kid is heartwarming. And then we see it grow and grow until he realizes that he loves the boy more than anything—more than his love for Pietas, even, which is saying a great deal. This primary story is so wonderful. But the secondary story, regarding how children are being treating in the Thieves’ Guild and what Luc and Pietas want to do about it, is just as compelling. I loved every bit of this story! Highly recommended.

– Dee S. Knight, erotic romance author (A Stolen Heart, Book 1 of Thieves’ Guild Academy)

I loved A DIVIDED HEART, the newest book from SF&F author Kayelle Allen. Kayelle’s books are always a joy to read, because the plot, voice, characterization, and romance all work exceptionally well. If you’ve read Kayelle’s work before, know that this book features one of Luc’s deshai from A STOLEN HEART, all grown up — that being Brinn, of course. (A deshai is more or less an apprentice.) This is an added reason to adore this novel, mind you…getting to see Brinn as a teen/young adult in A STOLEN HEART on the periphery of things take a step forward toward becoming a teacher and foster-father in his own right was truly a treat.

For those of you who haven’t read Kayelle Allen’s work yet, this would be a good choice at figuring out what Kayelle’s all about. It’s a reasonably “clean” romance — there’s some kissing, but that’s about it (everything else takes place offscreen, as it were) — between two good men who want to do right by each other, even if they don’t seem to always know what it is.

Five stars, highly recommended.

– Barb Caffrey (A Divided Heart, Book 3 of Thieves’ Guild Academy)

I gained access to an advanced copy and voluntarily decided to share my thoughts on it. This review reflects my honest opinion.
This is book three of the Thieves Guild Academy series, but the story was previously published in an anthology as Hacking Planet Fun. It is about 90/100 pages and written in the same style as the Antonello Brothers. The story takes place several decades after A Stolen Heart (I recommend reading that one first). Brinn is now a teacher at the Thieves Guild Academy. Dresden, a young HalfKin child, is in danger of being expelled from the Academy and returned to the Imperial foster system when no foster parent is willing to keep the spirited four-year-old girl. Brinn cannot believe the Academy is willing to send a four-year-old back to the system. Whatever happened to the motto “Family above all else,”? He decides to foster the little girl himself with the help of Hahlibeth, his own foster sister. Meanwhile, Kam, Master of the Academy, has his hands full with students who continue to hack Fun Planet while trying to win over Brinn. Their mutual attraction is obvious to everyone but themselves. Will this romance stand a chance between nurturing a young half-breed and leading a herd of young thieves at the Academy? The story could have been a little longer, but I enjoyed every bit of it. The characters are very likeable, the world building is solid and loved the flow of the story and the HEA ending.
I would love to read more stories set up this world.
