Guest Blog from Jana Richards:

Thanks, Madison, for giving me the opportunity to blog with you! I’m excited to meet your readers.
For those of you who don’t know me, and I’m guessing that’s most of you, I primarily write contemporary romance, sometimes with a sprinkle of humor, a dash of the paranormal or a pinch of mystery. I’ve also written romantic suspense and stories set in World War Two. I love both those romance genres and have plans to write more such stories in the future. I write romance because, first of all, I love to read it. And I love to write romance novels because of the message of hope they bring; no matter what has happened in your life, love is still possible.

I get inspiration for my books from many sources. Sometimes it’s a news article, or even the lyrics of a song. Often, it’s something from my own life. For instance, even though I now live in large city, I’ve lived in a small town and grew up on a farm. Based on those experiences, I enjoy writing small town contemporary romance. I believe I understand how small towns operate and how people in small towns think. My love of World War Two stories comes from the fact that my dad was a WW2 vet. I’ve been fascinated with the era for a long time.

Writing is a very solitary profession. Sometimes when I’ve been hunkered down alone in my writing cave too long, and getting the words down feels like pulling teeth, I need a serious injection of inspiration. Luckily, I belong to a writing group in my home province of Saskatchewan. I get together with my fellow scribes a couple of times a year for a retreat. For a few days we get to concentrate solely on our writing without the distractions of jobs, families, housework or anything else. We each have our own room, and we spend the day writing or plotting. At meal times and in the evenings, we get together for lots of laughs and companionship. At our last retreat, I asked for help plotting my new series. I ran a few ideas by them and got a plethora of ideas. Being with like-minded people who share my passion for writing is totally inspiring, and I come home brimming with ideas.

Next up for me is a new small-town contemporary romance series called the Masonville series, which is set in the fictional small town of Masonville, North Dakota. The first book in the series is called CHILD OF MINE and will be released February 20, 2019 by The Wild Rose Press.

About Take A Chance On Me:

Teacher Darcy Ferris loves travel almost as much as she loves her Toronto neighborhood. But no matter how far she roams, she always returns to the genteelly shabby Victorian mansion where she grew up, the last place her father lived. Darcy’s world is turned upside-down when the Victorian is slated for demolition.
Since architect Nick Cummings’ mother’s death, his father has retreated from his real estate developing business, and from life. In a desperate attempt to interest his father in living again, Nick buys a beat-up Victorian mansion and draws up plans to replace it with a Victorian-inspired condo. But he doesn’t expect such opposition from his new tenant, Darcy Ferris. Nor does he expect to fall in love with her.
Nick and Darcy must come to terms with the past before they can forge a future together. And they’ll need to take the biggest chance of all – on love.

Take A Chance On Me Excerpt:

Darcy woke to the smell of bacon frying and coffee brewing. She stretched languorously, her body aching in interesting places. Smiling, she remembered the way she and Nick had touched each other last night. And the things they’d done to each other. Several times.
Her thoughts made her shiver with need. Throwing on an oversized t-shirt, she went to hunt Nick down and drag him back to bed.
She found him in her kitchen and she hung back, enjoying the view. He wore boxers and a t-shirt as he fried bacon and hash browns, his hair deliciously mussed and the scruff on his jaw giving him a sexy bad-boy vibe. Stanley sat at his feet, no doubt waiting for a scrap of bacon to fall into his mouth.
She could imagine watching Nick cook breakfast every morning. They’d have coffee together before they’d kiss goodbye and go to work. Later, they’d come home for dinner and tell each other how their day went. And at the end of the day, they’d make soul-satisfying, toe-curling, passionate love. Every night. For hours. Like last night.
Stop!
Her heart gave a painful kick. It couldn’t be like that. They couldn’t be like that. If she let herself care about Nick, he would leave her. Everyone eventually left her. She couldn’t bear the thought of loving Nick and losing him.
Dear God, she loved him.
She slapped her hand over her mouth. She couldn’t be in love with Nick.

About the Author:

When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. Just for fun, she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense “Seeing Things” was a 2008 EPPIE finalist. In 2018, “Lies and Solace” won for best contemporary romance in the I Heart Indie contest from the Los Vegas Romance Writers.
In her life away from writing, Jana is an admin assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts, travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her husband live in Winnipeg, Canada with their Pug/Terrier cross Lou. She loves to hear from readers and can be reached through her website at www.janarichards.com
