Racing Hearts, a contemporary romance from Marcia James

We are so excited to welcome Marcia James to the blog this week. Marcia is here to share her contemporary romance Racing Hearts, the first book in her Klein’s K-9s Service Dogs series.  Welcome, Marcia! We are all very excited to hear more about Racing Hearts especially my assistant. She said Racing, Dogs, and Romance! It just can’t get any better than that can it?

After a career of freelance nonfiction writing, I wrote my first romance novel because I love the genre. I read and write romances because they offer a guaranteed happily ever after with strong heroines and heroes just waiting to be saved by love.

I also enjoy including rescue pets in my books, since I strongly support “Adopt; Don’t Shop” for pets. Through fiction novels, I can talk about important issues such as spaying and neutering pets without being preachy. I can show how important it is to save as many homeless pets as possible, while offering humor and a core sensual romance in my books.

My “Klein’s K-9s Service Dogs” series features a tiny medical alert dog, a police dog that falls for a ball of fluff emotional support dog, and a wide array of rescue pets from cats and parrots to a tiny bottle-fed puppy and a pot-bellied pig.

My monthly contests always feature a stuffed dog and jewelry (https://marciajames.net/contest/), and my newsletter subscribers learn about upcoming contests, free ebooks, and book releases.

About Racing Hearts:

Can an injured racecar driver who believes he’s lost everything and a service dog trainer who’s loved him for years forge a future with the help of a pint-sized canine?

Stock car legend, Tom “Torque” Tyler, faces a bleak existence following an off-track wreck. Suffering a traumatic head injury, he’s developed epileptic seizures that end his career. To avoid tabloid reporters and well-meaning friends, Tom retreats to his hometown of Jenkins, N.C. It seems everything that mattered to him is gone.

Service dog trainer and good friend, Meg Klein, shows up on Tom’s doorstep with a seizure alert dog. Bob, a tiny but talented canine, makes it impossible for Tom to maintain his black mood. And Meg is determined to drag her high-school crush out of his self-imposed solitude — even if it means issuing a sensual double-dog-dare.

Will the paparazzi ruin her best-laid plans?

Racing Hearts Excerpt:

Meg stepped closer. “Would it ruin dinner if we waited before eating?”

His expression curious, Tom turned off the sauce. “No. Would you like some wine?”

This was the moment of truth. “All I want is you.” Meg flattened her hands on his chest and stood on her toes to press her mouth to his.

She’d surprised him, and it took a heart-stopping second for Tom to respond. But then he tugged her against him and deepened the kiss. Her heart stuttered, then raced. Their tongues warred and explored, his taste a rich, savory mix of male and Italian spices.

Tom raised his head, his eyes darkly shining. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to have regrets?”

“I’ll only regret it if we stop.” She loved that he was worried about her…and maybe she would have misgivings in the morning. But for once in her life she’d live in the here-and-now. She met his heated gaze. “I know you’re not in Jenkins to stay, so let’s not waste the time we have together.” Meg circled his neck with her arms, pulled his head down to hers again, and poured every bit of her passion and love into the kiss.

Marcia James Bio:

Marcia James finaled in eleven Romance Writers of America contests before selling her first contemporary romance. Her releases include Sex & the Single Therapist (the first in a comic romantic mystery series) and the “Klein’s K-9s Service Dogs” contemporary romance series. A national and international ebook bestseller, she writes hot, humorous romances featuring heroines you can root for, heroes to die for, and funny dogs.

In her eclectic career, Marcia has shot submarine training videos, organized celebrity-filled nonprofit events and had her wedding covered by People Magazine. After years of dealing with such sexy topics as how to safely install traffic lights, she is enjoying “researching” and plotting her novels’ steamy love scenes with her husband and hero of many years.
