Today, May 11th is release day for my ‘standalone’ Protecting Sara (Special Forces: Operation Alpha,) a first for me in the Susan Stoker Special Forces world. I’ve had great reviews from my beta readers, and I have a secondary character that I’d like to tell his story next. It’s going to be fun.
I’m working on another ‘standalone’ book that is in Desiree Holt’s Phoenix Agency series; it will be released in August. And so far, it’s been a blast. It took some research, but I know a great intuitive. Stay tuned for more info.
I write ‘standalone’ above because most of the books I’ve written have been my own fictional characters unlike in the above series or world’s where they mix with characters who have already been introduced and established.
I have to ask myself, “Why do I prefer to read and write romantic suspense series?”
The answer is simple: it’s exactly what I love to read. Although I’m known as a huge Harlan Coben, who in my opinion, is one of the best thriller authors out there. He writes with little, or no romance and his books inspire me to write more complex characters as well as well researched material for more twists and turns in the suspense.
- The first series I wrote, the Deadly series, wasn’t planned as a series. But due to the amount of material I found and the addition of a secondary character as a partner to the hero, it or he necessitated his own story. That and the fact that I loved the secondary character, Dave, almost as much as I loved Wyatt, the hero.
I ended up writing a total of six books. And I still have research material I find every day. It’s enough for a couple more books, so you’ll have to watch for my newsletter with all the releases in 2021-2022.
2.) The second series I wrote, Saddle Creek series, was a planned series. I got an idea from one of my sons and his three best friends. They’d been friends since high school, although one had been a friend since third grade. Our house was always where the kids hung out, so I knew these ‘boys’ well. And I got to know them better as the years passed by. Move ahead to high school graduation, college, marriage, child(ren,) divorce, second marriage, more child(ren,) career changes, etc. and yet they’re still best friends. They’ve never not been there when one of them needed them for advice, support, decision making career changes, bad day, and even the death of a parent.
They’ve been through everything life has thrown at them so far as they head into their fifties. Uh-oh, giving away my age. And still talk every day and/or meet up at least once a week. Their wives and children have blended into their families and become once huge family.
I loved and knew the characters well in real life, it was easy and a joy to write each of their stories that were fabricated in my mind. I continued with three additional Christmas books with the same characters and introduced the readers to new characters who may end up having their own story. You’ll have to wait and see.

Meet Lorelei
Amazon bestselling author of romantic suspense, Lorelei Confer, has been writing since the fourth grade. She lives on the Gulf Coast of Florida with her husband and AJ, a longhaired Chihuahua, who are both her constant companions.
