Q&A with Linda O’Connor:

Describe your ‘perfect’ writing day.
Get up. Eat breakfast. Write until noon with a Skittle break at 10:30 a.m. Eat lunch. Write until 3 p.m. and get 4000 sublime, no-need-to-edit words done. Go for a bicycle ride. Swim. Share a healthy dinner with my family that someone else has cooked. Go to Zumba. Shower. Spend the evening at book club with my friends. Sleep and dream of the next chapter before waking completely refreshed. Hahahahaha

How do you celebrate the mile-markers of publishing?
Signing the contract: Dancing
Finishing Edits: Dancing
Going over the ARC or galleys: Dancing
Release Day: Dancing!

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
One hundred percent of my personality is in my writing. 😀 My life experiences are woven into the stories in some shape or form, often not consciously or exactly as they happened, but sprinkled with my imagination.

How do you come up with story ideas?
News stories, headlines, snippets of conversations I hear, lyrics of songs, watching people and putting a story behind their body language or expression – they all inspire my imagination. I’m a physician and my characters are often doctors. The patients they see are often inspired by something I want to teach.

After you’ve written your book and it’s been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?
I always buy it, but I never read it. 😀

Why did you decide to write?
I’m a physician, and I started writing because I wanted to find a fun way to disseminate medical information and to educate and empower readers to take ownership of their health. Targeting a female audience with romance novels seemed like a good idea because women are usually the ones who see a doctor. (Males typically only go when a girlfriend/partner/spouse/mom encourages them to do so. :D) I write romantic comedies because I love being in a fun headspace when I’m writing.

About Perfectly Honest:

You never know where your words will take you…
When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s “fiancée” for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor. Sam O’Brien, aka “Dr. Eye Candy,” is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his “fiancée” helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his “fiancée” ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

In Perfectly Honest, Dr. Mikaela Finn helps deliver a baby in the middle of a hotel foyer. I had this idea because, as a physician, I’ve helped sick patients on an airplane, in church, at the beach, at the gym- medicine is rarely nine to five. I also delivered my nephew – unexpectedly, but luckily at a hospital – when the obstetrician didn’t show up on time. It was a fast delivery. My nephew is kind, smart, friendly, outgoing – he’s wonderful really – and I take credit. It’s all in the delivery, right? 😀

Perfectly Honest Excerpt:

Mikaela nodded to the paramedics who were busy checking Jessie’s vitals and preparing her for the trip. Mikaela removed her gloves and tossed them in the mess.
She approached Sam and motioned for him to follow her into the foyer. He pushed himself away from the wall and followed her out the door.
She stopped in a quiet corner and turned around. “So,” she said, trying to decide where to start.
“So,” he repeated, “you’re a doctor.”
“Yes, an obstetrician gynecologist,” she agreed, trying to read his reaction.
“Yeah, I got that. Nice work in there, by the way.”
“Thanks,” Mikaela said, looking away, then back at Sam. “Sorry I didn’t tell you.”
“Why didn’t you?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. It didn’t come up and didn’t seem important.”
“You didn’t think that someone might recognize you?”
Mikaela stiffened. “I never thought of that,” she admitted. “I guess it’s a moot point now,” she grimaced.
“Yeah,” Sam said, putting his hands in his pockets. “I’m sure everyone will have heard of you by tomorrow.”
