Love, Art, and Other Obstacles, a contemporary romance from Sadira Stone

Please help us give a very warm welcome to Sadira Stone to the blog this week. Sadira is here to share her BRAND NEW contemporary romance, Love, Art, and Other Obstacles. Welcome, Sadira! We are all excited to hear more about Love, Art, and Other Obstacles.

Q&A with Sadira Stone:

Hello, Madison, and thanks for this chance to meet your readers. I’m thrilled to share my newest release (yesterday!): Love, Art, and Other Obstacles, Book 3 in the Book Nirvana series. It’s a steamy contemporary new-adult romance set in a bookshop in Eugene, Oregon.

Where is your favorite place to write?
I write in my little home office, painted celery green, with various writing talismans on the walls and bookshelves. There’s a sit/stand desk to keep my butt from growing roots, and a comfy reading chair for breaks.

What inspires you as an author?
I’m inspired by the real-life romances I’ve known, and by the marvelous romance fiction I gobble like popcorn.

Why do you write romance and why your genre of romance?
Romantic love is one of the most important drive that motivates humans throughout their lives. So is sex, and I’m not shy about describing that either. Some readers prefer chaste love stories, but I want the whole, steamy, delicious experience. I write the kind of books I want to read: complex characters, real-life dilemmas, complicated, messy relationships, and fabulous sexual chemistry.

What are you working on next and when can we expect to see it?
My summer “beach read” novella Gelato Surprise comes out June 29th. The hero works in his uncle’s gelato shop in a Washington State beach town. The divorcee heroine faces two weeks alone when her ex spoils their annual beach vacation by whisking the kids away on a surprise Disneyland trip. Lots of delicious Italian food and gelato-melting chemistry in this one!

What would you do if you couldn’t write?
I’ve always wanted to paint, so I’d probably immerse myself in art classes.

How do you spend your free time?
Well, with the current restrictions, Hubs and I take a long daily walk. I’m reading lots, Zooming with friends and family, pulling weeds (oddly satisfying), and playing darts, ukulele, and guitar. Oh, and reading romance books, of course.

Do you listen to music when you write? What is your go-to playlist and why?
Usually not, though I’ve been listening to Christmas jazz while I work on my current project, a Christmas romance novella set in a neighborhood tavern.

How do you, your friends and your fans encourage you when you need a pick-me-up?
I spend far too much time on social media and enjoy connecting with writers and readers going through the same emotional storm.

About Love, Art, and Other Obstacles:

She’s a free spirit. He’s a one-woman man.

Rejected by her family for her bisexuality, graphic artist Margot DuPont yearns for a life with no fences, no limits, and no family ties. Between college, work at Book Nirvana, and an art competition, she barely has time for her part-time girlfriend, much less a flirtation with her competitor.

Dumped into the foster system at a young age, ceramics artist Elmer Byrne craves a big, loving family of the heart. His artist family almost fills that need, but something is missing…until Margot. But when he offers his heart, her thorny defenses shatter him.

Thrown together in an art competition that could jump-start one artist’s career, but not both, their irresistible attraction forces them to reconsider the meaning of success.

Excerpt from Love, Art, and Other Obstacles:

“Tell you what,” he said. “How about if we have drinks and talk about anything but the competition?”

“Because…why?”

“You’re a real hard-ass, aren’t you?” He rolled his eyes. “Because I like you, Margot.”

“Why?”

He leaned so close their foreheads almost touched, a challenge simmering in his smile. “Have a drink with me and find out.”

If there was one thing she couldn’t resist, it was a challenge. On the other hand, he might not like her so much if he knew about Darcy. Let that be the test, then. Let him prove he wasn’t one of those possessive, controlling guys Darcy warned her about.

“Okay. I will.” She stepped back. “But you should know, I’m sort of seeing someone.”

His thick auburn brows contracted. “Sort of?”

“A woman.”

His nostrils flared on a deep inhalation, but he held her gaze. “Is it serious?”

“Not really.” Might as well serve up the truth, raw and ungarnished. Might as well be honest with herself too. “She lives in Berkeley. I only see her every month or two.”

Holding her gaze, he nodded. “Okay then. Thanks for telling me.” The tense lines of his mouth relaxed into a casual grin. “So, drinks?”

Well I’ll be damned.

Author bio:

Ever since her first kiss, Sadira’s been spinning steamy tales in her head. After leaving her teaching career in Germany, she finally tried her hand at writing one. Now she’s a happy citizen of Romancelandia, penning contemporary romance from her new home in Washington State, U.S.A. When not writing, which is seldom, she explores the Pacific Northwest with her charming husband, enjoys the local music scene, plays darts (pretty well), plays guitar (badly), and gobbles all the books.
