Maddy’s Gem of the Week and What to Read Next

Timeless Classics made New Again

I am finishing up a fabulous driving vacation through Nova Scotia and the stunningly beautiful Prince Edward Island. You cannot visit PEI without being reminded of the timeless, legendary tale of Anne of Green Gables.

What to Read (and Watch Next): Anne of Green Gables

Did you read Anne of Green Gables as a young girl? Not me.  I did not discover the irrepressible Anne until I was almost forty, when I was introduced to Wonderworks’ gorgeous Anne of Green Gables television series. From there, I read the entire L.M. Montgomery series about the fiery redheaded orphan and her repeated scrapes and adventures.

I cannot recommend the books enough, but seeing Anne of Green Gables and these gorgeous Canadian settings through the lens of Kevin Sullivan marries both a perfect example of what to read next and a true gem. It was that series that inspired this vacation.

Anne’s is a timeless story of spirit, family and yes, romance. If you haven’t seen it, rent it. Or better yet, own it. You will want to see it again and again.

And read the books. You’ll want to immerse yourself in Anne, Marilla, Matthew, bosom friend Diane Barry and our love interest and nemesis Gilbert Blythe. These are stories for children of all ages.

Or Perhaps…

Gem of the Week: Give a Care

Sadly, most of us know someone with breast cancer, or someone we know knows someone. The numbers of women fighting this disease are frightening, but research and treatment in fighting breast cancer are some of the most promising being done.

Here’s a chance to help those with breast cancer and fight cancer at the same time. It’s hard to know what to do to help when a friend gets breast cancer. Run errands, bring flowers, send gifts?  Sure those, or a lovely card are a nice gesture, but there are actually useful gifts to help get her through the hard days ahead.

That is where Give-a-Care can help, offering the first line of products for young women with breast cancer.  Give-A-Care actually understands women fighting this disease so they build personalized care packages that acknowledge what she is dealing wth, and provide her with care she really needs.

Some of my favorite examples include the small chemo care kit that includes lemon candies, tea and more, or the super soft red and white striped scarf to cover a balding head or just spruce up any outfit to help feel prettier.  Shop for t-shirts, totes and more to help this worthy cause.
