A Little About Estelle Pettersen, author of Loving Jack

Where is your favorite place to write?

I enjoy writing in a little office at home, which faces the forest. I feel most inspired with ideas and motivation when I’m in the office.

What inspires you as an author?

Other authors and their books, including the BVS authors’ books. I gain inspiration and learn how to improve my writing skills while reading and enjoying the stories. Nature (the forest and ocean) also inspires me.

What are you working on next and when can we expect to see it?

I’m working on book two of the Seduction series, which is an erotic thriller romance. The second book has more crime and drama. I’m hoping that it will be out in the next 12 or so months.

How do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time with my family, catching up with close friends, or reading books.

Do you listen to music when you write? What is your go-to playlist and why?

Yes, and I love music. I create playlists for each of my stories, often based on where my characters take me. Therefore, my playlists are varied.

How do you, your friends, and your fans encourage you when you need a pick-me-up?

While I appreciate positive comments, I also like to keep a humble heart, so I focus on being goal-oriented – finishing current projects and starting new ones. I shut off from social media and go for a walk or to the gym. This helps release stress and gives me an energy boost, lifting my spirits.

An excerpt from Loving Jack by Estelle Pettersen

“What are you doing these days?” I was curious, wishing I’d kept in touch with Jack. Keeping connected hadn’t always easy as we’d had different agendas and had grown apart.

“I’m a different kind of cowboy these days. I’m working on the family farm.” The McCullens owned one of the biggest cattle farms in southwest Queensland. Roma had the largest store cattle sale yards in the southern hemisphere, processing more than 400,000 cattle a year with sale days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “It’s just temporary until I move to Brissy,” he continued.

“You’re moving to Brisbane?” I raised both eyebrows. I never thought Jack would think of moving to the big smoke again.

“Yeah. After my injury I applied for a job with the education department. I finally got a response—they’re looking for a maths teacher at a high school in the northern suburbs.”

“So, when do you start?” I asked, slicing my eyes in skepticism.

“What’s that look that you’re pulling, Livvy? Didn’t you think I’d put my education degree to good use? I’m good with numbers, if you remember.” Jack put one arm around my shoulder, giving me a gentle shake.

“Yeah, that was the one subject you managed to beat me in,” I retorted, sticking my tongue out, letting loose a little snippet of my competitive nature. We’d gone to the same school up until the seventh grade. After that, we’d attended different boarding schools in Brisbane during our high school years, only to be reunited as friends at the same university.

“So, what are you up to these days? Any plans?” Jack asked.

“I applied for a job in Brissy too. They’re looking for a media relations officer in the justice department. So, I figured, why not?” I shrugged my shoulders. Jack pulled his arm away from me and drank his beer.

After some small talk and finishing our drinks, we walked out of the pub and said goodbye.

“Hey, what does it take for a friend to get a hug?” Jack smiled, teasing me with his gorgeous eyes that swept me away like a Pacific Ocean wave.

I looked up at him with my dark eyes and stepped a few inches closer. I flinched a little when he touched my hair and worked his fingers to my pale cheekbones before tapping my freckled nose. Placing my arms around Jack’s slender waist, I gave him a decent hug, clinging onto him a little longer than friends normally would. I heard his steady heartbeat and breathed in his fresh, masculine scent. I realized this was the closest I had been to a man in a long time. Loving Jack was not hard at all. Telling him that I always loved him was another story.
